Thowing away PCs

Wednesday, December 20th, 2006

We’ve just put out 256 pieces of IT equipment for disposal. It seems that one of the items that we recycled (we sell some usable stuff for £1 instead of throwing it away) managed to catch fire (or break dangerously or something like that) and has pretty much meant we can’t give stuff away any more.

Anyway, this is what our mountain looks like.

Moving house

Saturday, December 16th, 2006

So my parents are doing the final stages of their move and our flat isn’t getting enough ventilation so we were going to look around at a couple of new flats too. Our timing wasn’t right for the 6 weeks notice (as it needs to end on the monthly payment) but we were going to have a look around anyway.

First flat was on our road and the other was on the next round. Both are good for my work and Amy’s as they are close to the bus routes. We arranged the first on Thursday and had a call on Friday saying it was taken. We arranged the second just before the first rejection.

So we have just put our coats on at 11:30 for our 12:00 appointment and we’ve just had another call saying this one is taken. So we have a lesson to learn from this

Only look for flats in a window that you are happy to instantly cancel your current rented place. If you want something book to see it the same day as you find it and be prepared to walk straight to the agents if you like it.

The flat next door is up for rent again at £75 more than we are currently paying. Shame that this place isn’t very nice to stay in in the Winter, it’s certainly a summer place.

Work blog

I’ve been playing with blogs for University again and have one set up.

My blog is here.

Free phone

Sunday, December 3rd, 2006

Today Amy got a new phone. I on the other hand wanted £10 worth of credit as I was running out.

In the end I came out with a phone, £10 worth of credit and paid £9.99 for it too.

Of course it’s nothing like my current one but I’m sure someone might like it. It’s very clear and easy to use and isn’t too small.

Computer

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

Well after what feels like weeks I have a computer back. Looks like the motherboard (£130) and graphics card (£190) have gone. It was because they both went that I couldn’t just swap the components over that I brought from work to see what was broken.

I haven’t bought the graphics card yet but I have borrowed the one from work for the time being while I sort out buying my own.

Remember aeons ago when I used passwords for private stuff? Well I’m using it below.

If you don’t remember what it is (it hasn’t changed) then find contact in that swishy menu on the left.

Computer go boom boom

Monday, November 20th, 2006

I’m on Amy’s computer for the moment.

My computer’s monitor turned off yesterday for no reason. When I turned reset it it wouldn’t load into Windows. Again with nothing showing on the screen.

Tonight I brought home a graphics card from work and that did nothing, so it looks like it is the motherboard. So that is now on order.

Because of my computing thoughts of paying loads for cool stuff it as cost me about half the price of an entire Dell computer, but hopefully it should last a while (3 year warrenty at least).

Gingerbread men

Look at them. Look how cute they are. Aww. So cute.

New menu

Tuesday, November 7th, 2006

My host fixed the menu problem but I thought that I’d make a new one anyway.

Hope you like it.
