I recently contacted Lacie help desk for a problem I am having with Mini Disk 500GB NAS. Unfortunately, the answer was not helpful. Here is my problem. All my attempts to mount the NAS on my dreambox 500-s have failed. I can easily mount HD from a PC. Later I found out that the dreambox needs samba server running on the network HD to connect. Subsequently I discovered that Lacie Home edition is equipped with Hipserv supporting samba. Is there any hope for my NAS to "marry" the Dreambox?

I managed to mount Lacie Ethernet Mini Home to Dreambox 500s, but I can only play movies stored on it via File menu at Dreambox. For recording I have only ngrab-option (using it to record on PC that is running nGrab Lite). Dreambox is with Gemini image. I would appreciate help for getting record possibility from Dreambox to LEMH.
FTP to FamilyLibrary is easy to reach: after connecting to LEMH ftp server, one level up and 0common is the FamilyLibrary folder!

This site is new to me so I´ll try here...

I have a EDmini (250GB) It doesnt respond in my network anymore. It still works with usb. I have done the update found at lacie´s site with no greater resault, now I see there is a folder named Linux as well.
I cant set the ipadress wether dhcp or static.
The guarantee is out so I have picked the disk out and put it into my debian server. to try if it works, it does. Does anyone have a clue how I might get some info/logs from the disk, or might creat a logfile wile it is hooked up to my debian system. And then put it back in the Lacie box.
Any trick toughts, I´ll bee greatfull for anything.

I certainly don't have a problem playing the music from my iTunes library but it is right that you cannot sync. This is to ensure that one person, say in a university, doesn't fill up thousands of ipods.

Hi

I had previously stored all my music on the laptop through iTunes. I have copied the entire Itunes folder to the Family Music Folder to access the music there.

I can pick up the music on my Sonos - but it doesn't see the iTunes server. When I open iTunes on my laptop it shows 'Shared' and then under that 'HipServ:iTunes'. When I click on that it says loading and then I get the following error.

The shared library 'HipServ:iTunes is not responding (-3259)
Check that any firewall software running on either the shared computer or this computer has been set to allow communitcation on port 6689

I can no longer sink my Ipods as a result.

I've tried loading it with the firewall turned off on the PC and it still won't load.

I've found this exact problem posted on another site and apparently there is an issue with the album artwork corrupting music files but I've found no fix for it.

Does anybody have any ideas?

Thanks to any who can help

Hello, I bought a "LaCie Ethernet Disk mini - Home Edition" but now I like to change the portal name. How can I do that? (I do not mean the username or the password, but the "portal name"... ) Thanks. Rudy

Hello I hope someone can help me before i implode with frustration!

I have the LaCie Home Edition connected to my BT home hub and using itunes on a Windows Vista laptop i can see the music stored in the family music folder under 'shared' in itunes. The problem i have is when i come to change the music folder within itunes from the C drive to the hipserv music folder. Everytime i shut down the laptop and restart itunes reverts back to the C drive. Argh! Although the library knows where the music is on the Hipserve even if it is pointing to the C drive in the settings!!

I have checked the hipserv settings and it is assigned to the same workgroup as the laptop (mentioned in the help files). The laptop seems to 'lose' the password for the hipserv even though i click to remember it. Therefore everytime i switch the laptop on i have to change the music folder within itunes to the hipserv, and enter my username and password, which then means it has to sort and re-organise the music (even though it has done it a million times!!) before i can start ripping my CD collection (the whole reason for buying the blumming thing!). If i forget to check the music is ripped to my C drive.

This has me demented - please can anyone suggest anything? Why doesn't it realise that the laptop is on the same WLAN? Would it be different if i connected the laptop to the router so it is on the same LAN??? Which obviously defeats the whole perpose!!

Thanks

Ryan, I have the same issue you have when streaming from my LaCie Home Edition to the Xbox.

I upgraded the software for the LaCie HE to 1.6.2 and now it is worse: I can see the HipServ server from the Xbox media screen but no files inside it. No pictures no videos.

I cannot tag these file as "Media Share" on the LaCie navigator window. The icon is not available.

This is becoming very frustrating. I even tried to enable UpnP again and my router was then pointing to the LaCie for every request, disrupting all access to the internet. I had to access it by wire from another computer to reconfigure it.

if anybody has a clue about this...

Reply to Outlawz

Hi

Hopefully you have solved your problem by now !
Sorry for late reply, but Ihave not been in here for a long time now.

Anyway

To Connect to your home network you must open a port in your router
so you can connect to your Home edition Lacie.
And point in the Router to the IP adress that is given by you, or the router to the NAS.

For me it works with port 21 outside and inside.
using UPNP Forwarding or port forwarding in the router.

But ALWAYS Close the router ports when you are done !
becouse if you connecting to your NAS from the outside trough the router
everything you have shared out is acceseble for everybody in the whole world
by just going to your router IP adress and /files

Example:
If you open port 80 in your router and point it to your internal IP adress for your NAS xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
and for example using UPNP or s portfowarding.
If somebody in China types in your IP adress to your ROUTER wich is given to you by your ISP.
EX: http://123.456.789.1/files

Anybody can download everything that you have shared out on the NAS.
But nothing more, than what you have shared.
(Good to know)

Some ISP does not allow you to connect via port 21 so but hopefully it will work.
In The Lacie Home edition you can´t use SFTP but only FTP connection to it.

Hmmm If you can´t connect from work i´ll bet it is the computer security restriction guys, that have blocked the port 21 for FTP internaly in your job !

But.....
you can always download / upload via the web bowser instead of the FTP, that has to be open for people to surf on your job and that is port 80 for surfing and 443 for security (bank) etc witch is open in 99% of all companies.

Hope you find a way.
(Lern by doing is the best)

Best regards

I have some possibilities to end this call home madness. This assumes you've already set up your router with a password through the standard setup.

The first step is to learn your router. Specifically, disable UPnP (unplug and play or better known as 'unplug and pray'). This should be disabled anyway if you care anything about security.

I went one step further in my D-Link and put a parental control on this box. It is no longer allowed to go outside my home network. I can access it by either

- or http://192.168.your.ip/?local=1

It helps to learn a bit about the command line NET USE command. I'll start posting more later as I learn. So far, I have windows networking and external computers can't access from the web.
