Holiday photos

// July 31st, 2007 // 2 Comments » // Holidays

I’ve been cleaning at a couple of the photos making up Lynton and Lynmouth 2007.

I’ve just put up three beautiful landscapes of Lynmouth, view of Countisbury and Watersmeet. Should have stayed there really, damn work.

Holiday

// July 31st, 2007 // No Comments » // Personal, iSolutions (ISS, Central IT)

I’ve un-password protected the posts that implied that I was on holiday. Now the sun is shining I’m back, typical.

Tomorrow I’ll be back at work as part of the central IT department. It’s all official as my boss has put it out

As many of you will be aware the School has been working closely with ISS over the past eighteen months with the intention of them taking responsibility for much of the schools ICT infrastructure and technical support.

This is part of a wider university initiative which will enable Schools to benefit from certain economies of scale and have more direct access to a large pool of expertise available in ISS.

As part of this initiative the technical support team, Graham Robinson, Paul Sugarman and Graham Cronin officially become members of the ISS team as from tomorrow, 1st August. They will continue to be based at the Avenue campus providing the excellent first line support they have always provided.

Mark Angers from ISS will be overseeing the transition process in the coming months and will be pleased to answer any questions you may have. He can be contacted at [Snip] @soton.ac.uk or tel: [snip]

From 1st August if you require technical assistance we would encourage you to phone serviceline on [snip] or e-mail them at
[snip] @soton.ac.uk. Of course you can always find the team in room 2161 (upper level 2) in emergencies, if it is quicker to call in person or you wish to discuss a technical matter.

Best

Malcolm

Weather forecasts

// July 29th, 2007 // No Comments » // Holidays

Today was supposed to be a really rubbish day. It was supposed to be so rainy today with strong winds that the scheduled Lyn Lions raft race was cancelled.

As it happens the day was perfect. The water was calm and the sun was shining bright. Fortunately for us we hadn’t planned on doing anything, just like all the other days. So we managed to find time for ice cream, toffee cake and plenty of Stargate, which is good apparently. I say apparently because Amy can’t stop watching it and I’m having trouble thinking of things to do that aren’t watching it.

… hence blogging regularly.

Air Ambulance / Flickr change

// July 27th, 2007 // No Comments » // Website

Got up close to an air ambulance today. Also you’ll notice that I’ve added something into the blog to better intergrate it into flickr.

Wii

// July 24th, 2007 // No Comments » // Holidays

I’m in Lynmouth at the moment, and I’m typing this on my wii. It’s sunny at the moment but it is anything like consistant weather. Susan’s flat is very nice and right in the heart of the town. I have Lynmouth photographs on flickr but I will put up some more especially as amy is looking so much thinner now.

Training

// July 18th, 2007 // No Comments » // iSolutions (ISS, Central IT)

Today I had some training in ISS’s Action Responce System software.

To make things amusing ISS used to be called Southampton University Computing Services.

This means I’m now fully trained in SUCS ARS.

Driving games

// July 16th, 2007 // No Comments » // Family, Gaming

I’ve been looking at cars for a few weeks now and I’m still no further to working out what I’m going to buy. The choices between getting a cheap ‘first time’ car and a ‘reliable’ car that is going to last me, as well as wondering if I need a small car that’s cheap to insure or a more powerful one that would actually get me to Hull and Lynmouth without taking a hotel for the night.

One thing is for certain though, there is a mass of Ford Ka’s on the internet. If you search for a car between 1,000 and 3,000 pounds in Southampton, 50% will be a Ka. Not that I should complain because I really like them but they certainly fall into the ‘cheap to run’ rather than ‘will get to Hull’ category. At least they aren’t a 1.0 but 1.3 isn’t too far off.

On a non-speeding-down-the-motorway note I’ve had a play of The Movies demo and I’m impressed with it. I’m desperately (and successfully) trying to stop playing World of Warcraft as much as I have done. It’s a good game, but without a pause button and the ability to control the other 100 real-life people in the guild you can end up not leaving the computer for 5 hours at a time. Insert sad face here.

Another game I’ve been playing is Resident Evil 4: Wii edition. Amy got it for my Birthday and it’s a lot of fun. Still nowhere near as good as Wii Bowling. Nothing can beat that.

Photoshop

// July 14th, 2007 // No Comments » // Personal, Website

I’ve been very good with software recently. I’ve been buying all my software, using my job as a way of legally getting things like Office and educational versions of Dreamweaver. But I got stuck with Photoshop this week.

I’ve been using Paint Shop Pro XI for all my photo editing. It’s about £600 less and practically indistinguishable from PS. However the theme on the blog seems to require it.

So I’ve had to install Photoshop for 30 minutes and uninstall it just to do the edits above. But I think it looks quite nice.

Birthday Cake

I’m writing this straight from Flickr, how clever!

This is my cake. It’s so rich that I’m thinking of asking to be on its will.
