Viruses

Saturday, April 30th, 2005

I’ve managed to get a Virus on my laptop and main PC. Seems that I got a new one before the antivirus companies could make a ‘cure’ for it.

The main PC is now fine. I have a program called Norton Ghost. With it a make a copy of my whole hard drive and store it so when something like this happens I just roll back time a week.

Laptop I’m having to manually remove it, and it’s being a pain.

New news thing

Just because I thought that it would be funny…
Amy can now comment on the blog posts, just in case you want to see the different points of view. I’ll write an example in for her.

Site goes live

Monday, April 11th, 2005

The new site is now live. Sorry to all the people who, for the next 2 months, will be coming from Google to the wrong pages.

Remember, you have to log in to view every piece of news, just like the last site.

Well, these things happen.

[Edit]
I’ve changed some code so that if you follow an old link to this site you will still end up in the right section (221t / news / pro). Photograph pages will still take you to the index page, sorry.

As a conciquence you can now type in mediaguy.co.uk/221t , mediaguy.co.uk/news and mediaguy.co.uk/professional to get to the right section.

More login stuff

Thursday, April 7th, 2005

I’ve made the error box come up to say that you haven’t logged in. This lets you know straight away that you should log in if you want to read all of the news. It will only appear once per session (from the time you open your browser to when you close all it’s windows) so if you miss it you will have to click on one of the ‘log in to view this entry’ links.

Sony patents brain controller

Thursday, April 7th, 2005

I’m really starting to look forward to the Playstation 3 coming out now – Sony patents brain controller

quote:

Sony has been awarded a patent for a technology that could conjure up smells, tastes and other sensations in the brains of movie-goers. Specifically, the patent (US Patent 6,729,337) covers “a method for generating sensory data onto the human neural cortex”.

It describes using ultrasonic transducers (we kid you not) to stimulate neural activity in particular areas of the brain, causing the person to experience smells and tastes as part of the cinematic experience.

How good does that sound!

News page

Wednesday, April 6th, 2005

I’ve been tweaking a lot of the usability of the site tonight (although I probably should have spent 2 hours of it sleeping.

3 new things are added

1) If you are on the news page, then go to the login page and log in, you now get directed back to news.

2) Error messages are now shown for a few things. a) Incorrect login b) wrong linkname put in the address c) no linkname put in the address d) sending an email through the contact page without putting a message

3) Contact page has been added and works. If you get an error message saying that the page isn’t found then you should end up at the contact page in case it is a bug.

I think the only content missing from the site is now the previous work section in professional. I’ll get that in tomorrow and then I can start the horrid task of trying to get this site live and the old one removed.

Oh, and I didn’t drink any wine tonight.

Website is coming together

Finally managed to fix the left menu today. It now expands sections like photographs and nokia 221t.
